Book Indexing in Print and Electronic Formats

Welcome to Taconic Indexing.  I create detailed, easy-to-navigate indexes for academic, trade, and non-profit publishers.  Please explore this site to find out more about what I offer.

A good index helps readers and users find information in any document or collection of information with greater detail than the table of contents, and better usability than a concordance generator.

My experience includes indexing scholarly and trade manuscripts, with additional editorial and production experience in publishing and marketing. I am available to index in any subject accessible to the general reader, with particular experience in business management, religion, and education. A comprehensive list of titles and my resume can be accessed by the tabs at left.

In addition to conventional back-of-the-book indexing, I can also tag text to create embedded indexes.  In this way, the index is still functional in a digital format, no matter how font sizes or page lengths are altered, or chapters reordered.

Preparing to work on a text requires an understanding of the needs and expectations of the readers, a final version of page proofs, and an understanding of the publisher's style guides. My fees are determined by the density of the text to be indexed, as well as the depth of indexing desired.  Please
contact me to discuss your project, or for any other questions.

"I want to thank you again for the really marvelous index you prepared for my Restoring Democracy to America. As I wrote to you earlier, its thoroughness and its acuity are unexcelled. I doubly appreciate that you completed such a fine piece of work under some considerable time constraints. Again, I am most deeply appreciative and look forward to working with you again."
